Bone Marrow Biopsy, Clot and/or Aspirate (Smears)

Methodology

Includes bone marrow tissue processing, hematoxylin-and-eosin stain, iron stain, and additional stains if necessary for interpretation.

Specimen Requirements

1. Fix biopsy and/or clot in AZF container of AZF fixative supplied. 

2. Label frosted end of slides with patient’s name.

3. Air dry smears and transport in slide holder supplied.
Note:  1. Label specimen container with patient’s name (first and last), medical record number or date of birth, date and time of collection, time specimen was submitted in AZF solution, and specimen type.
2. Please complete a “Surgical Pathology/Cytology Request Form” including the patient’s clinical history and diagnosis, and forward it with the specimen.

Reference Values

The laboratory will provide an interpretive report.
