Methodology
Conventional CultureIncludes Gram stain, isolation, identification, and susceptibility testing of aerobic organisms. Bronchial brushings will be examined for presence of anaerobic organisms upon request only.

1. Submit 1 mL of 2 mL of aspirated specimen in a screw-capped, sterile container. This should be collected by a physician during a bronchoscopy procedure using a sterile technique. Avoid contaminating bronchoscope with tap water.2. Maintain sterility and forward promptly at ambient temperature only.
Note: Specimen source is required on request form for processing.
Reference Values
NormalBronchoscopy specimens are usually contaminated with normal upper respiratory flora.
