Specimen Requirements

1 mL of Lithium Heparin plasma

  • Preferred Specimen:  Light Green Plasma Seperator Tube (PST) 
  • Acceptable Specimen: Dark Green Lithium Heparin tube

Centrifuge blood as soon as possible, or send unspun blood to laboratory within 4 hours of draw. Avoid hemolysis. 
Note:  Do not uncap tube once specimen is drawn.

Reference Values

0-31 days:  7.0-12.0 mg/dL
1 month-14 years:  8.5-10.5 mg/dL
≥15 years:  8.0-10.2 mg/dL
Critical values (automatic call-back):  <6.0 mg/dL or >12.5 mg/dL
