Test Code CXV Co-Oximetry Profile, Venous, Blood

Methodology

Co-Oximetry
Includes direct measurement of O2 saturation; O2 content calculated; hemoglobin (Hgb), total; and oxyhemoglobin (FO2 Hb).

Performing Laboratory

St. Clair Hospital Laboratory

Specimen Requirements

Specimen must arrive within 1 hour of draw.

Draw a lithium heparin blood gas syringe (1 mL of lithium heparin whole blood) or a green-top (lithium heparin) tube(s) [minimum volume:  of 1 mL] of lithium heparin whole blood. Syringe should be placed in wet ice slush immediately after draw. If green-top (lithium heparin) tube is used, invert 5 to 6 times before placing in wet ice slush.
