Test Code FECPRO Fecal Parasite Protocol, Colonic Fluid or Stool

Methodology

Microscopic/Enzyme Immunoassay (EIA)
Includes both a microscopic examination of concentrated stool for the presence of intestinal parasites and an EIA procedure for the specific detection of Giardia lamblia and Cryptosporidium antigen.
Note:  The collection of 1 specimen for this protocol eliminates the need for 3 separate collections, for ova and parasite, in most instances. If this testing battery is negative and intestinal parasites are still suspected, additional specimens can be collected and routine ova and parasite examinations carried out.

Performing Laboratory

St. Clair Hospital Laboratory

2 g of fresh stool or colonic fluid collected following the directions in a Para-PakTM kit supplied. (Specimen containing barium is not acceptable.)
