Test Code GLUGDS Glucose, Gestational Diabetes Screen, Plasma

Important Note

  • Patient must drink 50gm Glucola and then the blood sample is collected 1 hour after finishing the drink. 
  • If order also requests a "fasting" or "Baseline" glucose, This is a seperate order and must be collected prior to the patient drinking the 50gm Glucola.

Specimen Requirements

1 mL of Lithium Heparin plasma

  • Preferred Specimen:  Light Green Plasma Seperator Tube (PST) 
  • Acceptable Specimen: Dark Green Lithium Heparin tube

Centrifuge blood as soon as possible, or send unspun blood to laboratory within 4 hours of draw. Avoid hemolysis. 
Note:  Do not uncap tube once specimen is drawn.
