Specimen Requirements
Sample Type:
- Serum (free from hemolysis and gross lipemia, collected by standard venipuncture technique).
- Plasma: Use only Li-heparin.
- Urine: Urine samples for ISE (Na, K, Cl) do not require a preservative. It is acceptable
to analyze 24 hour urine collections for ISE when they are collected with 10 gm Boric Acid or 25 mL of 50% Acetic Acid as a preservative.
• Fluid samples (upon request) will be run for sodium, potassium and/or chloride. (Test codes: NAFL, KFL, CLFL). No Reference ranges will be provided.
