Specimen Requirements
One 4.5 mL blue top (3.2% sodium citrate) tube. (Min. 1 mL platelet poor plasma.)
Drawn at Hospital:
- Prechill blue tube prior to collection on wet ice
- Immediately upon collection, place tube back on wet ice
- Centrifuge within 1 hour of collection
- Pour plasma into specimen transport tube
- Freeze immediately
Drawn at Offsite location:
- Prechill blue tube prior to collection on wet ice
- Immediately upon collection, place tube back on wet ice
- Centrifuge within 1 hour of collection
- Pour plasma into specimen transport tube
- Place specimen transport tube on wet ice for transport to the hospital
- Upon arrival in the main lab, freeze immediately
