Specimen Requirements

One 4.5 mL blue top (3.2% sodium citrate) tube. (Min. 1 mL platelet poor plasma.)

 

Drawn at Hospital:

  1. Prechill blue tube prior to collection on wet ice
  2. Immediately upon collection, place tube back on wet ice
  3. Centrifuge within 1 hour of collection
  4. Pour plasma into specimen transport tube
  5. Freeze immediately

 

Drawn at Offsite location:

  1. Prechill blue tube prior to collection on wet ice
  2. Immediately upon collection, place tube back on wet ice
  3. Centrifuge within 1 hour of collection
  4. Pour plasma into specimen transport tube
  5. Place specimen transport tube on wet ice for transport to the hospital
  6. Upon arrival in the main lab, freeze immediately
  7. Specimen must reach the lab and be frozen within 4 hours of collection
