Important Note

Please order GBS (Group B Streptococcus, Real-time PCR). STRVAG should only be performed if patient has penicillin allergy and PCR is detected.

Specimen Requirements

1. Do not use lubricant on speculum.
2. Using an aerobic bacterial transport swab, obtain specimen from posterior vaginal vault or from vaginal orifice if hymen is intact.
3. Return aerobic swab to plastic sleeve.
4. Maintain sterility and forward promptly at ambient temperature only.
Note:  Specimen source is required on request form for processing.
