Specimen Requirements

 7 blue tops (see Specimen

                            Requirements and Special Test Instructions)

Drawn at Hospital/Dunlap:

1. Draw sample Monday thru Friday before 11:00 AM
2. Prechill 4 blue tops prior to draw
3. Immediately upon collection,  place tubes back on wet ice
4. Centrifuge within 1 hour of  collection
5. Pour plasma into specimen transport tubes
6. Freeze immediately
7. The 3 remaining blue tops are to remain whole blood at room temperature
8. All specimens must reach Vitalant Laboratory and be processed within

             3 hours of collection and before 3:00 pm

Drawn at Offsite location:

1. Draw sample Monday thru Friday before 10:00 am
2. Prechill 4 blue tops prior to draw
3. Immediately upon collection, place tubes back on wet ice
4. Centrifuge within 1 hour of collection
5. Pour plasma into specimen transport tubes
6. Place specimen transport tubes on wet ice for transport to hospital
7. Upon arrival in lab freeze immediately
8. The 3 remaining blue tops are to remain whole blood at room temperature
9. All specimens must reach Vitalant Laboratory and be processed within

      3 hours of collection and before 3:00 pm

Special Test Instruction:  

                                             These specimen are unable to be drawn at Physician

                                             Offices due to specimen integrity and stability.  Refer

                                             patients to our Outpatient Laboratory or 1 of our

                                             Outreach Locations.
