Test Code SPCNT Secondary Post-Vasectomy Sperm Count

Important Note

This test should only be ordered for secondary follow-up semen analysis following vasectomy. If this is the first time following vasectomy, order SPCNT1.

Methodology

Microscopy
This assay is used to verify that sperm have been successfully excluded from the ejaculate after vasectomy.
Test includes sperm identification on both wet mount and stained smears.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen must arrive in laboratory within 2 hours of collection.

 

Call St. Clair Hospital Laboratory at 412-942-3832 for collection instructions and to schedule an appointment prior to collection.

 

Collect total ejaculate in a screw-capped, sterile container. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.
